Outdoor plants Hellebours

Christmas Rose

For the best results hellebours prefer limey, humus rich soil with a little shade. Dig in plenty organic matter, or one of our Cook's multi purpose composts, and mulch round the plant every year to help keep in moisture.


Skimmia Skimmia

Available in many different sizes - ideal winter colour.

With striking green leaves, bold white flowers in the spring which turn to vibrant red berries come together to make skimmia a perfect plant for the winter shade garden. For the best results plant in a shaded spot - too much sunlight will cause the look an off-colour yellow.

For a good display plant three or more bushes together. Dig in plenty of multi purpose compost before planting to ensure a healthy plant.


Nandina Nandina

Ideal winter foliage and berries as well.

Nadina's lacy foliage, autumn colour interesting flowers make this an ideal plant it does enjoy sunshine but can survive in partial shade.

Provides colour from November to March each year.


Viburnum Tinus Viburnum Tinus

This is a hardy ever green plant which can flourish in a sunny, partially shaded location or even shaded plot.

Flowers between December & April with small white flowers which turn to dark blue black berries.


Eleagnus Eleagnus

Great foliage

This is a hardy evergreen, will do well anywhere in the garden from full sun to shaded.

The early blooms always look great.

Camellias prefer a well drained spot with some shade - if you are planting 2 or more in one spot prepare a well prepared bed rather than individual holes.

Mulching once your plants are in the ground with 3 inches of mulching material helps retain even moisture and reduces weed growth.

choisya ternata
Choisya Ternata

Commonly referred to as Mexican orange blossom is an easy to grow shrub which will do well in full sun or partial shade. This hardy shrub can cope with the soil in most gardens and will reach approximately ten feet (250cm) tall with a similar spread. Flowers May to June. If crushed, the leaves have a distinctive smell, reminiscent of basil.

Commonly referred to as Spanish gorse this easy to grow shrub enjoys plenty of sunshine and well drained soil. It will reach a couple of feet in height and has a much greater horizontal spread. In late spring and early summer you can expect a mass of golden flowers.

Cotoneaster is an easy to grow shrub which prefers full sun or partial shade and will do well in most soil. It will reach a couple of feet in height and spread considerably more horizontally. The flowers which come in late spring and early summer and turn to stunning berries which look great in the autumn.
